Object Description
This beautiful silver and rock crystal cup was crafted in c.1880 in Vienna, Austria. The cup will make a beautiful addition to a collection of luxury antique items.
The cup is composed of an oval bowl with a flared rim, which stands on a shaped stem, on a splayed foot. The cup’s bowl is crafted from rock crystal and it is gadrooned. Its silver mouth is finely enamelled with colourful classical style figurative scenes, and the rim is edged with a silver rope-work band. The cup’s stem is decorated with two sculptural silver bearded male figures, who sit back to back. The figures’ clothing and accessories are enamelled. The top and bottom of the stem are decorated with enamel floral designs and egg-and-dart bands. Like the bowl, the splayed foot is crafted from gadrooned rock crystal and it features a silver edge. This is enamelled with classical pastoral and hunting scenes, and its border is lined with silver grass-like bands. The silver is hallmarked.
