Viking Bronze Oval Brooches

Object Description

A very fine pair of Viking oval brooches cast from bronze. The brooches display a domed oval shape with a flattened rim. The body is enriched with stylised birds with curved beaks and geometric motifs. The reverse displays an integral transverse bar with a catch for the pin. Encrustation and iron deposit are also visible while patination can be seen on both sides.

Private UK collection, acquired in Switzerland, formerly with W.R, late 1980s-1990s.

Object Condition

Very fine condition, patination to the surface along with encrustation and iron deposit to the reverse. Signs of wear and small perforations to both brooches consistent with age.
