A decorative Gabbeh rug dating circa 1940 depicting two male lions.
The plain natural, undyed colour field has a pleasant colour variation (abrash) adding great depth and richness to the graphic drawing, framed by an ivory plain border.
Gabbeh, a nomadic region in southern Persia, has been known for many generations for its high-quality, expressive tribal rugs. Early pieces were made for domestic use rather than commercial value in the marketplace. Gabbeh rugs have a cultural authenticity making them highly desirable to collectors.
In excellent condition with lustrous wool and naturally dyed colours.
