CJ Vander, London silvermiths, originally established by Alexander Macrae in 1856 at Covent Garden, London. In 1870 Martin Goldstein became a partner and the firm became Macrae & Goldstein, dissolved in 1878. Martin Goldstein continued to trade under his own name until 1886 when Cornelius Joshua Vander, his apprentice, took over and entered his first mark. C J Vander continued until his death in 1904 when his sons Alfred and Henry Vander took over. Henry’s sons Henry and Arthur joined the firm in the 1920’s, and also Alfred’s son Norman. Circa 1930, the firm became a limited liability company C J Vander Ltd. In 1996 the firm was acquired by Syratech Corporation, owners of the leading silver brands in the USA.
