Object Description
Commissioned by the Manchester-based firm Ziegler & Co., Ziegler carpets were originally crafted in Sultanabad (modern-day Arak) to cater to Western tastes, blending traditional Persian motifs with European design sensibilities. The result was a series of rugs characterized by grand scale patterns, subtle color palettes, and exceptional craftsmanship – these pieces can be found in historic homes across Europe and the UK, and continue to be highly sought among interior designers, for both traditional and contemporary spaces.
This beautiful vintage example represents a modern reimagining of the much admired Ziegler Sultanabad carpets of the 19th Century, finely hand-woven in high-grade wool, lending a crisp clarity to its drawing. It features grand-scale designs are worked over an attractive and rare light denim blue field, in wonderful vegetable dyed tones of muted saffron, ivory, and light ochre, framed by a wide, pale border; being a vintage example, these have had time to take on a mellow patina.
In very good condiition for everyday use – its colours have taken on a mild and characterful patina with age.
