Object Description
An Anglo-Indian sandalwood Vizagapatam Box.
The box is decorated with inlaid micro mosaic and stringing made from ebony, ivory, white metal and lac which is typical to the intricate, high-quality work associated with area. The interior of the lid is also decorated, as are the edges. The fine step running around the bottom of the box’s interior suggests that it originally had a lift out tray which is now missing. The underside of the box has worn red velvet to protect any surface it is rested on.
A good looking storage box. Mid 19th Century.
