Object Description
Circa 1900, unusual patent action circular dining table with 4 double hinged concentric leaves. The table is stamped Waring & Gillows. The table is in the form of a drum table with 4 convex drawers with double string inlay. Inside the drawers is a folded leaf, which has a military style brass hinge in the centre. Left and right of each drawer there is a pull out arm with a small brass knob with a ribbed edge for holding the leaves. The leaves have a similar mechanism beneath which locks the leaves in place making the table extend from a 4 seater to a very generous 6 seater. Beneath the drawers there is a stylish carved quarter bracket. At the top of the legs there is a fielded panel with canted corners. The legs are square and tapering with beaded edge. At the base there is a bulbous moulded section and the whole piece finishes on a raised square toe. This type of table is very unusual and rare.
