Object Description

A fine Western Asiatic, bronze, compartmented and open-work stamp seal in the form of an anthropomorphic figure. The stamp seal is highly stylised, depicting a human standing with their legs together, their feet upturned, and their hands on their hips, elbows turned outwards. The head of the figure is represented by a tear-drop shaped perforation. The arms, though now blocked with encrustations, have been decorated with further rounded or polygonal perforations. The back of the stamp is flat, apart from a tall stalk handle at the centre of the reverse. The cylindrical handle expands upwards to a rounded terminal, pierced at the top.

Date: Circa 2200-1800 BC
