William of Wykeham 1320/4 – 1404 was, in the 14th Century, the Bishop of Winchester, Chancellor of England, founder of New College Oxford and Winchester College and, at the time of his death, one of the wealthiest men in England.

The figure, carved in Caen stone and polychromed, shows William of Wykeham in his Bishop Vestments with cope, mitre and Crozier holding for us to read his letter of office.

Two similar sculptures of St. Aquinas and Saint Dominic are held in the collection of Brighton Museum and Art Gallery.
