Object Description
A magnificent 17th century silver twin handled loving cup on a footed base. The fantastical forest landscape decoration is beautifully flat chased in the Chinese style with figures in period attire, snakes, foliage, fountains and exotic birds.

Marks. Stamped below the body rim with a full set of English silver hallmarks (rubbed) and the maker’s mark. The maker is too rubbed to be identified but this mark will have been registered in 1697 which is the first year of the Britannia standard period. The top rim and foot are also punched with the lion and George’s head duty mark, an indication of later additions to the silver.
