Object Description

A William IV Skeleton clock of fine quality with two massive scroll plates sitting on rectangular, silvered plinths and standing on a mahogany base with block feet.

Eight day double chain fusee movement with six ringed pillars and blued end screws. The wheelwork with five spokes, finely cut escapewheel and rack striking on a large coiled gong supported by a turned brass pillar. The movement repeating at will through the bottom of the case. Silvered dial with Roman numerals, finely cut blued steel hands signed ‘A.Stewart, London’.

The pendulum with stop also signed ‘A.Stewart, Percival Street, London. C.1835

‘Watchmakers and clockmakers of the world lists Alexander Stewart as working in London from 1832-1875, later becoming known as A.Stewart & Co.

Object Condition

Very good condition, the clock movement has been completely stripped down and overhauled and is in full working order
