Jean Baptiste Jules Trayer 1824-1909
Jean Baptiste Jules Trayer, known more generally as Jules Trayer, was a French artist who specialised in genre scenes and figurative subjects of fashionable nineteenth century life. He was born in Paris and studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts de Metz. He exhibited 26 works at the Paris Salon from 1847 with many prize winning compositions. His paintings depict domestic scenes of which this excellent example is characteristic and entitled “Winding Wool’. The painting retains its original high quality impressive Belle Epoque ornamental gilt wood swept frame in superb condition. Signed lower left.
