Object Description

This superb crested and armorial Rococo George II silver coffee pot was made in London in 1759 by Benjamin Godfrey (listed as a fine silver smith) and measures 11.5 inches tall by 9 inches handle to spout and is 4 1/8 inches in dia across the base. It has a double scrolled fruit wood handle with elaborate finials attaching it to the body and has a coat of arms to one side and a crest to the other, it has a lovely cast foot rim with flowers, foliage and fish scale engraving leading up to pear shaped body which is profusely decorated with scrolls, flowers, swags, leaves, columns and shell shaped acanthus leaf patterns to the cast spout, the hinged lid has matching patterning and a large sun flower finial. It is fully and clearly hallmarked to the side and to the lid rim with the makers mark and lion passant, a very fine coffee pot weighing 34.40 or 1070 grams.
