Yates Wilson was employed as an illustrator for the Ministry of Information during World War II. Following the war he worked as an illustrator of books and magazines, writing and illustrating More Alice in 1959.
The current work is the original design for the cover illustration of John Bull magazine, 31 May 1947. The picture is accompanied by a copy of the magazine.
