Object Description

A small silver fob seal dating from the late 16th century, carved with a hart or stag running.

Although King Richard II of England died in 1400, his personal badge—a white hart lodged/running—remained very popular throughout the 15th and 16th centuries. It was used by various noble families and continued to represent loyalism and regal authority.

I excellent condition, a remarkable survivor of the past four hundred years.
