Object Description
A Dorrie Nossiter blue chalcedony and amethyst silver pendant
For sale is this lovely Dorrie Nossiter chalcedony and amethyst silver pendant. Whilst unmarked, it is classic Nossiter with grape and coiled wire work silver design holding a cabochon amethyst. The pendant is wearable two ways, with a slightly differing design on either side. The chalcedony is beautiful clean blue as shown. The pendant probably dates to c.1930 when Nossiter operated from her Bond Street gallery and is in excellent condition. The pendant does not come with a chain.
Dorrie Nossiter was born in 1893, trained at the Birmingham School of Art and ran her own jewellery shop and workshop in London from c 1930-1960’s. She was part of that later group of arts and crafts women jewellers that included Sibyl Dunlop., Amy Sandheim and Frances Harling (Amy’s sister), and also Bernard Instone (not a woman!). Their work is often similar and unmarked and confused. This piece is undoubtedly by Nossiter even though it is unmarked.
