Object Description

For sale is this very good John Pearson chamberstick, signed with JP monogramme. It is also dated 1896, when Pearson was working with the Newlyn School having left The Guild of Handicraft. The quality of the workmanship demonstrates Pearson at his very best.
The design depicts a classic Pearson circle of sea monsters, perhaps of Norse/Celtic influence, within a sunflower patern surround. The design is picked out in the copper beautifully with Pearson’s trademark high quality repousse and chasing. The handle is a very satisfying darker metal with twisted design.
The chamberstick is a good size with 21cm diameter to the pan (ie excluding the handle). The condition is excellent, with crisp repousse and a good colour, with just some shine to the high points. The handle and candleholder are still tightly fixed to the pan.
