Object Description

A beautifully designed Japanese bronze mixed metal vase depicting an owl in a tree with silver and gold details, a silver moon peeks out from clouds at the shoulder of the vase. Rendered in fine detail on a delicately textured ground with mid brown patination.

The owl in Japanese culture holds a venerated status as a symbol of wisdom and fortune and traditionally protects against hardship. This belief comes from the Japanese name for owl, fukurou which combines a double meaning of good luck and protection from hardship.

Engraved signature to side and base.

Yamamoto – made by and Koken to the side.
