Object Description

A good George II/III period figured walnut bracket clock with 8-day hour striking movement and strike/silent.

The walnut veneered case has an inverted bell top and stands on four pad feet. The arched door is bound by a moulding, and there are delicately carved wooden sound frets to the front and the sides. The whole case is of a rich, well-patinated and figured walnut.

The 8-day twin fusee movement strikes the hours on a single bell. The arched dial has a matted brass centre, an inset dummy pendulum , gilt foliate corner spandrels, and a date aperture above VI. The maker’s signature is engraved on a raised silvered disc above the inset date and there is a strike/silent subsidiary dial in the arch. The back plate is beautifully engraved with scrolling foliage and a talking male and female figure.
